International Affairs Seminar Registration

International Affairs Seminar is offered to youth in grades 11 & 12 who worship with a Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) congregation. This intensive study trip visits Washington, D.C., and New York City.

IAS is physically and mentally challenging. Participants can expect to walk 60-70 total miles during the trip. The adult leaders are conversation partners, guides, co-learners, and are there for the safety of our group.

To complete the registration, each participant must pay a non-refundable deposit of $300.00. You may pay the balance in installments. Plan to pay your fee in full no later than February 1, 2027.

At the end of this form, you can choose to pay your deposit online with a credit card or choose to pay by mail. If paying by credit card, a 3.5% processing fee, +.30 + $1, will be automatically added to your payment. Thank you for helping cover the processing fees. If paying by credit card, note that the charge will appear as "OGMP Treasury Service".

The fee to attend IAS is $2000.00. This covers air, train, and ground transportation, housing, 3 meals a day, program fees, entrance fees, and two or three theatre tickets. Please select the amount you are paying today.

Medications

"Medication" is any substance a person takes to maintain and/or improve their health. This includes vitamins & natural remedies. Youth are responsible for maintaining their health during IAS and responsible for taking All their needed medications.

IF, taking medication during the trip, please list ALL medications (including over-the-counter or non-prescription drugs) taken routinely. Bring only enough medication for the entire IAS trip. Keep it in the original packaging/bottle that identifies the prescribing physician (if a prescription drug), the name of the medication, the dosage, and the frequency of administration.

With your permission, the Region's Ministerial staff and our volunteer adult staff will photograph or video tape your child/youth for the express purpose of promoting the Region's program ministries: Summer Camp (outdoor ministry), Children's Ministry, and Youth Ministry programs/events (IAS, Weekend Retreats, Mission Trips) through print media, digital media, the Region's website, or social media platforms.

The undersigned person represents that he/she is the custodial parent/legal guardian of the above identified participant. The youth has my/our permission to attend International Affairs Seminar 2027, sponsored by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Oklahoma from March 13-19, 2027

In case of medical emergency, I/We understand that every effort will be made to contact a parent or guardian of the youth. If I/We cannot be reached, I/We hereby grant permission for the Adult leaders to hospitalize my youth, secure proper treatment, and order injection, anesthesia, or surgery while my youth attends International Affairs Seminar 2027.

I/We further release Rev. Shannon Cook, IAS Adult Leaders, and staff of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Oklahoma from responsibility and liability for any accidents or illnesses occurring during International Affairs Seminar.

I/We understand that International Affairs Seminar experience grows in intensity as the week progresses. I/We know that demands outside this event may be in conflict with the commitment to spend a week apart, and I/We have chosen to have my(our) youth spend a week at International Affairs Seminar uninterrupted. Thus, I/We agree not to text or call my child/youth during the week of the trip.

My(Our) youth participant has no physical or mental disabilities that would impair their participation except as noted above. I/We understand that the information provided on this form will be kept confidential and shared only with the adult leaders of International Affairs Seminar and, as necessary, with medical professionals to provide care for the participant.

Community Covenant

International Affairs Seminar depends on a commitment to living in intentional Christian community by the participants and the adult leaders. To do so, we agree to a covenant that helps manage our relationships with one another, our behavior within community and as a community. We require all participants to read and agree to our Community Covenant below.

International Affairs Seminar is an opportunity to come to know God while living in intentional Christian community. To ensure every person’s worth as a child of God and each person’s safety, all participants (youth and adults) follow this Community Covenant.

I will participate fully in all activities.
I will be respectful to all persons and the housing sites at all times.
I understand that the adults are present for my safety, for my questions about life and faith, and that they are responsible for upholding the Region’s policies and boundaries as well as those of the facilities the group will visit or utilize. I will respect and trust the adults.
I will not wander away from the total IAS group, my travel group, or museum group.
The Region practices “Two Deep Leadership” to ensure all participants' safety.
I will respect the personal items of other participants and respect the personal space and other people's physical autonomy.
Accidents happen. I understand that my family will be held financially responsible for any repairs needed to property as a result of my actions.

I understand and accept that if I am found with, or participate in any of the following, that I will be sent home from International Affairs Seminar at my family's expense. I also understand that being sent home may limit or disqualify my participation in events sponsored by the Region, including summer camp, retreats, education or mission trips in the future.

I will not bring weaponry of any sort (knives, firearms, etc.).
I will not bring or consume illegal drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or vapes of any kind.
I will not steal anything from anyone.
I will not physically harm another youth or adult.
I will not participate in sexual activity of any kind.
If I behave consistently in a way that disrespects the adults, other youth, or the facilities, that does not reflect the grace and love that is expected of persons who claim Christian faith.

I look forward to spending time in community with those who share my interest in exploring Christian faith and the practice of Christianity as we play, pray, study, worship, and serve one another following the example of Jesus.
