Larkspur Christian Church and the Christian Church in Arizona are pleased to offer a one-day anti-racism training. This training is sponsored by the Arizona Anti-Racism Team and Congregational Vitality Anti-Racism Grant.
We encourage all Arizona Disciples to participate in a time of meaningful, constructive, and needed conversation on the issue of race in our region and country.
Where: Larkspur Christian Church
10614 North 43rd Avenue, Glendale, AZ
When: May 18
Time: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Registration closes on May 13th.
In this introductory Anti-racism workshop, participants will learn to:
- raise awareness of the systemic nature of racism
- see racism as sin
- acknowledge racism is still prevalent today
- recognize how we as individuals and the systems we function within are shaped by racism
- connecting the work of ending racism and their faith
Our hope is that at the end of the day participants will share a common understand and language with Disciples regarding anti-racism and also leave with greater awareness of the systemic nature of racism. Participants will also develop “Next Steps” to address systemic racism in our own communities.
“I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can ever become a reality… I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word.” MLK
For Arizona clergy, this training counts for five (5) of the ten (10) hours of continuing education required each year to retain standing. Congregations are encouraged to financially help clergy attend this workshop.
